Definition of infertility
"Infertility" refers to the couple's failure to conceive after more than half a year of not using contraception and having regular sex (having sex two or three times a week). Primary infertility refers to having never been pregnant in the past, and secondary infertility refers to having been pregnant in the past.

If a woman is over 34 years old and has not become pregnant for half a year, she should seek medical advice as soon as possible, because if she is 34 years old at the time of pregnancy and over 35 years old at the time of childbirth (this age refers to full age, not empty age), she is an advanced maternal age and is at risk of pregnancy complications. Or the risk of the fetus having low birth weight will increase.

Couples checked at the same time

It is recommended that both men and women undergo a complete infertility test. Traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis is mainly based on the four diagnosis methods of inspection, smelling, questioning and incision. Most people know that it is to check the pulse and look at the tongue. However, when treating infertile couples, most of the time, Chinese doctors hope that both couples can go through the Western medicine infertility specialist first. Check to see if there are any abnormalities in the male's semen analysis (sperm count, motility, type, liquefaction time, anti-sperm antibodies). Do men have vas deferens obstruction, testicular atrophy, or cryptorchidism? What is the level of ovarian reserve in women? Is there ovulation (polycystic ovary, hyperlactaemia)? Are the fallopian tubes blocked (chlamydia, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis)? Is the uterine environment suitable for embryo implantation (the endometrium is sticky or too thin, uterine leiomyomas, congenital malformations of the uterus)? Is the cervix narrow (have you had cervical cryotherapy, electrocautery treatment, or abortion surgery)? If these modern medical examinations are available, Chinese medicine practitioners will be more focused on treatment, allowing infertile couples to achieve pregnancy more quickly.

Chinese herbs combined with acupuncture and moxa
After a detailed professional evaluation by a Chinese medicine practitioner, a customized Chinese medicine prescription will be issued to the couple, including: Chinese medicine powder, Chinese medicine water, and Chinese medicine pills. In addition, it will be combined with acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, 1 to 2 times a week. Acupuncture is used to stimulate specific acupuncture points, harmonize Qi and blood, and assist in conception. If you have a weak and cold constitution, you will be further instructed on how to warm and moxibustion the acupoints on the abdomen and soles of the feet at home to warm the blood and regulate kidney qi. You may also soak your feet every day to promote blood circulation in the lower body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners recommend that infertile women take their "basal body temperature" to know whether they are ovulating (the basal body temperature meter shows bidirectional high and low temperatures) and whether the corpus luteum function is OK (the high temperature period exceeds 12 days), and to use it as a reference indicator for the effectiveness of TCM treatment. one. Using a basal body temperature chart and ovulation test strips can more accurately predict the day of ovulation, but the most accurate method is to take a follicular ultrasound at your own expense (which needs to be performed by an obstetrics and gynecology department). Since the egg can live for 24 hours after being released, and the sperm can live for up to 3 days in the uterus, it is recommended to have sex every other day before and after ovulation, with one day of intercourse and one day of rest. Assuming that 12/16 is the ovulation day, then 12/14 and 12/ It is recommended to have sex during the three days of 16 and 12/18. If the couple usually has high-pressure jobs, it is recommended that they arrange vacations during these three days to relax and maintain a good mood to facilitate pregnancy.

Living habits that both couples need to adjust
Relieve stress appropriately, maintain a good mood, get enough sleep, at least 7 consecutive hours of sleep, and preferably go to bed before 11 o'clock.
Maintain a regular sexual life and have sex at least 1 to 2 times a week.
Eat a balanced diet, eat more original foods, less processed foods, and less sweets. If you have a weak and cold constitution, avoid raw and cold foods (sashimi, lettuce salad, iced drinks, cabbage, radish, winter melon, bitter melon, loofah, watermelon, oranges). If you have a hot constitution, avoid irritating foods (containing alcohol/sesame oil, fried food, spicy hot pot), baked goods, baked goods).
Exercise for half an hour every day, with some breathing and sweating, at least three times a week. You can jog, walk briskly, ride a bicycle, or swim.
Avoid using fragrance products, skin care products, and perfumes with long-lasting fragrances. The fixative ingredient diethyl phosphophthalate (DEP)/plasticizer that makes the fragrance last long may damage the genes of male sperm and cause male infertility. It may also cause women to suffer from breast cancer, abnormal fetal brain development, and premature puberty in children.

If the husband has abnormal semen, he should adjust his living conditions

Avoid sitting for long periods, avoid driving or riding a bicycle for long periods (take a break in between), and avoid High-temperature environments (boiler operation, sauna, hot water bath).
Eat a balanced diet and supplement fertility-related nutrients, such as vitamins A, B, E, and zinc.
